Dylan McKenney, M.D. is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Boston Child Study Center in Portland, Maine. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine in 2009. From 2009-2014 he trained as a resident physician in Psychiatry, then completed Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Maine Medical Center. He is certified with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. McKenney has practiced in a hospital setting at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine, treating mostly children and teenagers since 2014. For most of that time he served as Medical Director for Pediatric Behavioral Services, overseeing a variety of treatment programs and working closely with state agencies and private partners to address the many challenges in Maine’s mental health system. Dr. McKenney Served as President of the Maine Association of Psychiatric Physicians from 2015-2017 and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Maine Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists.

Dr. McKenney is an expert in the use of medication for the treatment of mental health problems. He emphasizes that the role of medication in treatment is most often supportive of other kinds of interventions. He believes deeply in the importance of personal empowerment as the primary factor in the promotion of mental health. He strives to offer his patients powerful, evidence-based methods to improve mental health and wellbeing. Treatment may include the use of medication, psychotherapy, or addressing lifestyle factors and health habits.

Dr. McKenney specializes in the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, thought disorders, addiction, attention and focus problems, and other mental health challenges. He works with children, teens, and adults, frequently providing consultation to parents. Teaching is a passion for Dr. McKenney and he is often accompanied by students in his clinical work. He also provides clinical supervision for Psychiatric Resident Physicians and Fellows.
