Over the past twenty years there has been a proliferation in the diagnoses of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

There are two primary reasons for this:

  1. An increase in individuals demonstrating the symptoms of these disorders (many who have the disorders and many who do not), and;
  2. A lack of appropriate, evidence-based assessment to diagnose these disorders.

Individuals may present with a specific symptom (e.g., inattention) that can be caused by a number of vulnerabilities or disorders (e.g., ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, ASD).

BCSC uses state-of-the art evidenced-based measures such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale – Second Edition (ADOS-2) to provide diagnostic clarity. Our testing batteries are tailored to assess any factors causing an individual to demonstrate specific symptoms–even when those individuals do not meet criteria for the neurodevelopmental disorder.

We also have expertise in the assessment of ASD in female, gender nonbinary, and gender fluid clients. Understanding that females on the autism spectrum may have a stronger desire to interact with others and engage in “social camouflaging,” we provide flexible and nuanced assessments incorporating each client’s unique developmental history, presenting social and emotional challenges, and inner experiences.

BCSC’s testing program strives to understand and support all individuals with symptoms of neurodevelopmental disorders.
